What formalities do I need to commit to when coming to Mauritius for my studies?

You need to have your papers right; valid passport with at least six months validity before expiry. You should also make sure to have a confirmation letter from a university, registered with the Tertiary Education Commission of Mauritius. At this point, a Student Visa will be required by the Mauritian Passport and Immigration Office and by the University at which you enrolled.

Note: It is recommended that you keep a soft copy of all your official documents for administrative purposes. 

Do I need to hold any kind of insurance in Mauritius?

If you are not covered for medical expenses outside of your home country, we strongly advise you to contract one to cover for your health needs during your studies. The medical insurance should cover a minimum of outpatient medical expenses, repatriation and liability. Local insurance companies are, among others; Mauritius Union, Anglo-Mauritius Assurance, Sicom, Swan Insurance and Mauritian Eagle.

Do I need any specific vaccines to study in Mauritius?

There are no mandatory vaccinations requested to travel to Mauritius.

Which airlines fly to Mauritius?

We suggest you book your own flight tickets. A number of airlines do fly to Mauritius from several destinations around the world, including Air Mauritius, Air France, British Airways, Emirates and Air Austral.

How much luggage am I entitled to?

You must pay special attention to the information on your ticket as to how much each airline allows you to carry. However, airlines normally allow between 20 and 30 kg, with an additional cost for excess. Some airlines allow for student baggage allowance. 



What is included in my rent?

Price includes water, electricity, security 24/7, student support Team, TV & Internet connection in the common lounge.

Should I pay any registration fee?

 In order to confirm your booking, we will require a deposit equivalent to 3 months rental (amount which will be kept as a security deposit) and Rs 3,000 admin fee to be paid into our account.

Upon your arrival, at the latest, we will need an upfront payment for the first 6 months rental or should you wish to settle for the whole period.

I submitted an application to book student accommodation. When can I expect an answer?

The Student Life team will deliver a response within four working days. However, this promise may not be sustained during peak periods.  

How do I know if there is room availability in your residences?

Is there a deadline to register for accommodation?

There is no specific deadline, but the earlier you apply, the more chances you have to secure a room within one of our residences.

How can I secure an accommodation?

To pre-book your accommodation directly online, fill in the online application form with the required information and submit. Our team will then contact you about the required documents and provide you with further explanations. If you have any difficulty, feel free to contact us and we will assist you. 

Can I choose my roommates?

Yes, you can ask to be housed with specific roommates. The Student Life team will do their best to accommodate your requestpon (upon availability).

Can I modify my choice of accommodation even after booking?

It is always possible to request a change after application. However, it is understood that any request will be attended subject to availability. If you wish to make a change, please send us an email or give us a call. 


Are there any activities for students?

The Student Life Residences has its own lifestyle and provides a palette of activities for you to enjoy. You can discover them later on once students start to move in the accommodations.

What are the rules and regulations for use of the common areas?

The common areas are available for use to all students in the residences. For optimal community living, house rules will be presented to you upon your arrival.  

Is there any storage facility if I am not in Mauritius?

No. The Student Life Residences are not equipped with additional storage space for personal belongings.

What should I bring with me?

We recommend you bring along your personal belongings, such as clothes, electronics, books etc. and anything else you may need to add up to your comfort. The Student Life Residences have special prices for kitchen and bedding packs, but you may bring your own.
