A Little On The Demographics
Mauritius is surprisingly multicultural even if it hosts a little over one million inhabitants. The population is a mix of Indian, African, French and Chinese, with a representation of 68% Mauritians of Indian origin and 25% of African origin. Sino-Mauritians account for 30,000 and French-Mauritians 24,000.
The nation's diversity makes for a rich, cultural melting-pot whose presence is felt in the local food, music and architecture. Languages spoken are: English, French, Creole as well as ethnic languages.
